Ode to Thee 04/22/13

This is for the black man who lost his relationship with the first man that he sees looking back at him in the mirror.
The one who buried his past with pride and fear to use it as the dirt to cover it.
This is for the man who would rather inadequacy over power because power is his biggest fear...

I unintentionally woke up to eyes that were a wall to your soul.
I couldn't tell your past only your present.
Your feet were covered as I could not see the marks that were imprinted in your soles from life's battlefield.
Your hands have been reshaped and have grown out of the past that they used to fight with.
Your heart pleads to be content with the present and the future but breaks at the mention of the past.
There is beauty in where you came from.
There is beauty in the holes that lie deep inside you.
There is a heart waiting for your eyes to get heavy the day you pour your past out and finally tell the man in the mirror the truth.
The day you realize that the man in the mirror is truly you.

Take off the glasses that react to the lights glare and hinder you from staring at the whole image of you in the mirror altering your perception.
Pull back the hair that covers your ears to hear your self; that hides your shoulders & keeps them from squaring themselves up .
Detach the pride; rid the fear; stare at your whole self in the mirror & tell yourself everything you've feared hearing about the truth of your past for years.
Love every black area.
Love every war; appreciate  every heart break; rid every insecurity; rid every doubt; forget every person that said you would never amount to anything; rid the belief in the lies they told you; rid the fear of being to powerful; embrace the acceptance of all that you were that is making you the man you will be.
Embrace the little boy in you who didn't know how to escape the battles & broke into pieces that you attempted to bury.
Dig him up; raise him up to be the man you want to be. Strive to be a better man than your past wanted you to be.

This is for the man who would rather face inadequacy over power because power is his biggest fear.
The one who buried his past with pride and fear to use it as the dirt to cover it.
This is for the black man who lost his relationship with the first man that he sees looking back at him in the mirrorThis is for The superman to a young boy who has a similar story.
This is for a man who has yet to live in his own state of glory..

This is for Jawara Johnson... You are more than what you give your past credit for
